Pool leak detection in Mallorca
In a Mallorcan summer a pool loses a few millimetres a day to evaporation. If it is losing noticeably more, you are forever topping it up, or the pump keeps cutting out for lack of water, there is usually a leak. We find it – in the shell, the fittings or the pipework.
Typical signs
- Water level drops more than about 1 cm a day, even with nobody using the pool.
- Wet or soft patches in the lawn or on the paving around the pool.
- Air in the system, pump drawing air or losing prime.
- Cracks in the coping, loose tiles, gaps around skimmers or jets.
- Auto-fill running constantly, water bill creeping up.
What we check
Pipework
Suction and return lines between the pool and the pump room. Section-by-section pressure test, then pinpointing with tracer gas or acoustics.
Fittings
Skimmers, return jets, main drain, underwater lights, counter-current unit – the usual weak points where plastic meets concrete.
Shell
Cracks, grout and tiles in the pool body. We establish whether the loss is from the shell itself or from the plant.
How we go about it
- Conversation and initial check: how much water does the pool lose with the pump running versus switched off? That alone often narrows it down.
- Pressure test of the pipework, section by section.
- Pinpointing the leaking section with tracer gas (Variotec 460) or electro-acoustically (Aquaphon A200 with ground microphone).
- Marking the leak point on the ground and a report with photos and readings.
Our methods are non-destructive. Nothing is opened until the spot is confirmed – and then only there.
For owners who are not on the island
Many of our clients are only in Mallorca part of the year. The whole job can be handled remotely: we arrange access with your property manager, pool maintenance company or key holder and email you the report in English. You will know exactly what is going on without having to fly out.
